Yokai, is a commentary on societal pressure over Japanese women.

It used to be common practice amongst Japanese women to have blackened teeth.
Married women, sex workers or geisha, amongst single women who were past their youth were marked with the practice of ohaguro. I took it as a sign of servitude to men.

This character represents the abhorrent nature that lies over imposed docility, which is symbolised by the lip retractor.
